The Effect of Formalized Resident Education on Patient Counseling for Interval Sterilization

 Précis: After a formalized education reviewing patient counseling on interval laparoscopic sterilization, knowledge of the subject increased among OB/GYN interns.

 Purpose: To develop and implement a formalized resident education and best practices checklist on patient counseling for interval sterilization and observe its effect on outpatient sterilization consultations in a high-volume resident gynecology clinic.

A Checkbox for Learning: Including surgical goals in the preoperative time out to promote specific and timely feedback

 Précis: In an effort to increase the consistency and quality of surgical feedback, a pilot was implemented utilizing a reminder text to both attendings and residents to incorporate a discussion regarding surgical goals as part of the preoperative time out.
 
Purpose: To assess the feasibility and impact of incorporating a surgical teaching prompt into the preoperative time out utilizing a reminder text message.

Use of a Checklist to Improve Medical Student Knowledge of Pelvic Anatomy: A Pilot Study

 
 Precis: Medical students enter the OBGYN clerkship with rudimentary pelvic anatomy knowledge. Engaging students while teaching pelvic anatomy during laparoscopic surgery is challenging. This study aims to show that an anatomy checklist increases student engagement and anatomy knowledge.

Improving OBGYN Surgical Teaching with an Education-Time Out: a Pilot Study of Surgical Educators

 Precis: We implemented a perioperative Education Time-Out (ETO) to improve surgical teaching and learning. OBGYN faculty and residents were surveyed pre-implementation and at 1- and 6-months. The ETO improved surgical educational experiences and was highly satisfying to faculty and residents.
 
 Purpose: We aimed to: 1) implement a high-fidelity simulation to train faculty surgeons to use a perioperative Education Time-Out (ETO) and 2) assess an ETO’s impact on faculty and resident experiences in the operating room (OR).

Liposomal Bupivacaine Injection as an Adjuvant Therapy for Pain Control After Scheduled Cesarean Deliveries

Implementing Communications Training for OB/GYN Residents: Disclosure of Adverse Peri-operative Events

Precis: This study investigated the effect of self-evaluation on the improvement of surgical skills by comparing OSATS scores over a 4-month period to determine if the addition of a self-evaluation improved surgical skills more than instructor evaluation alone. 

Purpose: To study the implementation of communications training for OB/GYN residents on the disclosure of adverse peri-operative events
