eady for Lift-off: Launching Medical Education Scholarship to New and Unexplored Galaxies

Objective: Medical education research is complex, and a critical component in the transformation of medical education, addressing contemporary issues, assessing innovations, advancing learner skills and knowledge, and supporting professional promotion. This session will employ a structured framework of ideation, implementation, and dissemination through immediate application to advance one’s medical education research and scholarship to \'reach new and unexplored galaxies\'.

Methods: To begin, participants will engage in a discussion surrounding the impact of Covid-19 on female-authored scholarship over the course of the past two years. Next, we will facilitate a ‘speed’ research collaboration experience to foster a professional network while allowing individuals to consider where their scholarly projects are situated along the continuum of ideation, implementation, and dissemination. Beginning with ideation, participants will review a sampling of educational theories and frameworks to consider as a backbone for research. Moving to the implementation phase, tools and resources will be provided to help streamline common challenges such as the institutional review board process and writing of research protocols. Concluding with dissemination, participants will work from a provided outline of medical education journals and discuss where and how to disseminate completed medical education scholarship. This session intends to explore  a highly engaging session, speed-networking and ‘think-pair-share\' collaborative learning strategies will allow individuals to ideate, implement, and disseminate to achieve progress on scholarship.

Results: A take home product includes a medical education scholarship toolbox/compendium. This will be a universal - yet individualized set of materials to support progression through research ideation, implementation and dissemination, including worksheets, online resources and evidence-based criteria to assess one’s scholarship for feasibility and appropriateness.

Conclusion/ Discussion: It is well documented that women researchers experienced a reduction in publications and funding opportunities due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In the field of Obstetrics/Gynecology that is focused on and led by women, it is important to address efforts to advance efforts in medical education scholarship. We will provide evidence-based resources and individualized tools to mitigate common challenges and barriers for successful research lift-off!
