Have an idea that requires a digital platform? APPsolutely, we can help.

Objective: Digital Technology has become ubiquitous in healthcare. Medical mobile applications (apps) are being used routinely by patients and clinicians. Patients can explore contraceptive options, track their menstrual cycles, and check their labs. Clinicians can look up STI treatments, manage abnormal pap smears, and track their fitness with the simple tap of an app.  Although there have been over 300,000 healthcare apps created, there may still be gaps. App development often seems daunting for those without a background in information technology and computer coding. During this workshop participants will learn the process of designing simple apps with user-friendly tools that can be incorporated into their educational curriculum or research endeavors.

Methods: In this workshop, we will guide participants through the process of designing a digital app using a no-code, web-based software. We will start by demonstrating the process of developing an app. In small groups, participants will brainstorm potential medical education apps. We will take one of the ideas and demonstrate how to develop the app.

Results: In small groups, participants will discuss and generate a list of potential apps that would be helpful for medical education or to use as part of research initiatives. In the large group, we will take participants through the process of creating a prototype from one of the ideas generated.

Conclusion/ Discussion: Participants will leave with a framework for basic app design as well as a toolkit of resources to develop and launch their product.
