Factors that cause medical students to perceive different experiences at different sites of a multisite clerkship.

Objective: To explore the impact of student, learner and environmental factors on medical students perception of their educational experience while on call during an obstetrics and gynaecology clerkship.
Study design: This is an exploratory prospective observational trial. Factors will be divided into TEACHER characteristics, LEARNER characteristics and Environmental characteristics. Using qualitative and quantitative measures a survey instrument was developed and administered to 143 students. Qualitative responses to open ended questions identified dominant emerging themes which were used to develop another coding. Quotations from the questionnaires were coded, grouped and reviewed. All quotations for a coded theme were analyzed across all transcripts to explore further the emerging themes.
