AI ChatBot Navigation: Plotting a New Course for Medical Education

Précis: Explore the transformative potential and concrete strategies for utilizing AI chatbots in medical education.

Abstract: AI chatbots, such as ChatGPT, have emerged as powerful tools in various domains and this workshop will be the preeminent session on AI chatbots in medical education. The presenters use AI chatbots in their local curricula and are working with their schools to develop meaningful guidelines for use of AI in their medical education programs. We will introduce large language models and equip attendees with the skills to leverage them in their own medical education responsibilities. Our objectives will be to review the capabilities of AI chatbots, experience curricula development activities in real time, and discuss some of the controversial areas around AI usage in medical education.

1. Overview of AI chatbots with demonstration of chatbot capabilities (20 minutes) 2. Share best practices for \"prompt engineering\" to optimize chatbot performance and mitigate potential risks (10 minutes) 3. Small group activities that will focus on developing prompts for: (30 minutes)    a. Simulated patient encounter    b. Curriculum planning     c. Test questions creation 4. Exploration of the ethical considerations and strategies for maintaining transparency and accountability in the use of AI from the standpoint of learners, clerkship directors and medical school administrators (15 minutes)

Attendees will have numerous opportunities to interact in real time with AI chatbots throughout the workshop, engaging in activities that showcase the technology\'s strengths and limitations. Real-time feedback from the workshop presenters and the technology aims to foster a deeper understanding of effective utilization.

Participants will receive an AI integration toolkit, including ethical guidelines, practical resources, and prompt-engineering templates.
