Objective: Values Clarification and Attitude Transformation (VCAT) workshops have demonstrated efficacy in improving knowledge and attitudes surrounding abortion care and are recommended by the World Health Organization for abortion training. These interventions assist participants with understanding how their values, assumptions and social factors may impact patient care. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in-person learning restrictions provided an opportunity for implementation of a virtual adaptation of the Four-Corners VCAT abortion workshop for third-year medical students.
Methods: Our interactive session demonstrates how to effectively develop and deliver a 1-hour virtual abortion VCAT workshop for medical students through instruction, simulation and panel discussion.
Results: The following learning objectives are accomplished by participants:
● Recognize the importance of Values Clarification and Attitude Transformation (VCAT) workshops in medical student women’s health curricula.
● Comprehend how to develop and deliver a 1-hour virtual abortion Values Clarification and Attitude Transformation (VCAT) workshop for medical students.
● Understand potential obstacles and solutions to implementing a virtual VCAT workshop with medical students at their institution.
Conclusion/ Discussion: Our session teaches how to effectively conduct a virtual abortion VCAT workshop by simulating the virtual platform and engaging participants in a portion of the curriculum. Our panel will discuss challenges encountered with the curriculum including moderator fatigue, technical issues, and learner engagement, as well as strategies we have used to solve these issues. Following completion of the workshop, participants are provided a toolkit and resources to successfully launch this 1-hour virtual abortion VCAT workshop at their own institutions.
