Objective: The progression from preclinical to clinical medical education involves a transition from a clear, lecture-driven curriculum to one that relies more on student-driven learning. To aid in this transition, APGO provides a series of short videos and case examples geared towards standardizing the curriculum available to OBGYN clerkship students. Now, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for more high-quality virtual education materials has become apparent. The goal of this study guide is to provide students with a comprehensive list of topics and high-quality resources critical for success on the OBGYN clerkship, NBME, and OBGYN content on Step 2CK, presented in a novel and interactive format.
Methods: Using animation tools available in PowerPoint, a study tool was created to allow for student engagement and interaction with the informative slides. This interactive content is presented in the form of tables, charts, NBME-style questions, and quick review quizzes. Additionally, clinical pearls, explanations for deeper understanding of content, and advice for study strategies are presented to help students as they progress through their clinical training. The document is prepared in such a way that students can work through in a linear fashion or select topics most relevant to their current study goals.
Results: This interactive PowerPoint has been successfully integrated into the OBGYN clerkship at our institution. The resource is available for self-study as students progress through the clerkship and prepare for the NBME.
Conclusion/ Discussion: This distinctive style of study guide acts as an accompaniment to the APGO series by providing students with available resources and additional virtual content in one place, allowing students to study at their own pace and providing structure to the self-study necessary during clerkships. Additionally, it serves as a free, reliable study resource that appeals to multiple learning styles.
