Round Table Text: Learning About Lactation: Until June 2015, medical students at BUSM had no dedicated clinical exposure to breastfeeding mothers and few opportunities to learn management of common breastfeeding problems. We designed the Breastfeeding Medicine elective to provide a blended learning experience of an online module and robust independent study, combined with clinical experiences supporting breastfeeding mothers and formulating breastfeeding management plans. By participating in patient--‐centered breastfeeding learning experiences in the outpatient/community setting, (including prenatal breastfeeding classes, new mother support groups, and lactation clinics,) we expect students will gain competence and confidence in helping patients define and meet their own breastfeeding goals.
