CREOGs Over Coffee—An Assessment of Ob/Gyn Podcast Listeners’ Clinical Attitudes and Knowledge

Purpose: To evaluate the demographics of listeners of CREOGs Over Coffee (COC) and assess its effects on learners’ knowledge, satisfaction, and clinical care confidence.

Background: Podcasts are increasingly popular among medical learners. To date, there are no studies reviewing the demographics of podcast use in obstetrics and gynecology (Ob/Gyn) or how podcasts affect learners’ attitudes.

Methods: A 15-question survey to evaluate demographics, podcast use, and overall listener attitudes was distributed to capture listeners of COC. The survey was available from September to November 2020. Descriptive statistics were used to evaluate the data. Likert scales were used to assess outcomes which were compared between junior survey responders (medical students, PGY1s, and PGY2s) versus senior survey responders (PGY3s, PGY4s, fellows, and attendings).

Results: There were 371 total responses to the survey, of which 308 were complete (83.0%). Of all respondents, 77.5% were students and residents. 94.7% of respondents were satisfied with the podcast’s contents, 77.9% felt the podcast increased their fund of knowledge, and 62.2% felt the podcast increased their clinical confidence. When comparing junior survey responders vs senior responders, there was a significantly higher perceived increase in knowledge (89.3% vs. 65.9%, p< 0.001), clinical confidence (71.0% vs. 51.5%, p=0.001), and confidence in patient counseling (71.0% vs. 53.0%, p=0.003) for junior survey responders.

Discussions: The majority of listeners of CREOGs Over Coffee are trainees who are highly satisfied with its content with a notable increase in fund of knowledge and clinical confidence among listeners. This effect was most significant among junior survey responders.
