Creation of a Diversity and Inclusion Committee

Objective: DEI must be addressed as part of the medical student and resident cirriculum. Particpants in thsi workshop will explore how the formation of a DEI committee can enhance student and resident education and discuss how a DEI committee can work to increase equity in healthcare and the community.

 

Methods: Introduction: Welcome and discussion of background

 Leaders will discuss the steps to formation of DEI committee

 Interactive:  Break-out discussion regarding opportunities and barriers

 Leaders will review calendar of events sponsored by departmental DEI committee and explore how these enhance medical education. 

 Interactive:  Break-out discussion regarding ways to overcome obstacles 

 Re-group/Conclude - Group discussion

 

Results: Participants will receive and contribute to a template for formation of DEI committee and of activities sponsored by such a committee.

 

Conclusion/ Discussion: This roundtable will help participants organize and energize regarding  how to move forward with formation of a DEI committee or to enhance work already being done in this area.
