Connectivity Over a Challenging Topic: Interactive Training on Trauma-Informed Pelvic Exams
Objective: Experiences of trauma are pervasive and can significantly impact how individuals experience reproductive health care, especially pelvic examinations. In this workshop, we will introduce participants to definitions of trauma, core tenants of trauma-informed care, and how healthcare and pelvic examinations in particular can traumatize and re-traumatize individuals. Participants will learn how the principles of trauma-informed care should be applied to conducting pelvic examinations. We will share an interactive, case-based training aimed at preparing learners to conduct trauma-informed pelvic examinations and provide an opportunity to participate in portions of the training.
