Objective/ Background: Residency program preference signaling was offered to OBGYN applicants in the 2023 application cycle. The goal of this workshop will be to learn how to counsel future OBGYN applicants based on the first year of experience with signaling in OBGYN.

Part 1: Signaling Year 1 Experience (25 minutes)
Presenters will review available data from applicants and residency programs related to the first year of preference signaling. Applicants reported information regarding communication practices, away rotation involvement, interview distribution, and the equity of the application process. Ten residency programs provided data regarding the relationship between applicant signaling, interview selection, rank and match.

Mock Applicant Counseling (30 minutes)
Participants will work in small groups to “counsel” applicants based on paper cases provided with applicant profile and residency preferences. They will work together to give guidelines to the applicant regarding total number of applications, programs to give silver and gold tokens to, away rotations and program communication practices. Each table will come up with one question to ask the participants of the group as we collaborate to develop best practices for applicant advising for the upcoming cycle.
Conclusion/ Discussion: Take-home product
After presenting each of the small group questions to the larger group for discussion, participants will work together to develop a “top 10” list of advice to applicants and advisors on how to use program signaling.
