Objective: The Larner College of Medicine transitioned all pre-clinical curriculum to an active learning model, necessitating a change in how we present the material around maternal and fetal physiologic adaptations during pregnancy and early development.
Methods: In order to best facilitate an active learning model for this material, an interactive, team-based board game was developed to enable students to engage with this material in a way that was more engaging.
Results: This optional session is highly attended and receives high marks from students. The session is supported by a curated pre-reading which incorporates primary literature and textbook information regarding maternal and fetal physiology and pregnancy adaptations. Students who choose not to attend are provided the question bank and answer key from the board game to support their learning.
