Objective:
• Discuss creative solutions for optimizing existing ‘protected time’
• Review ubiquitous but untapped resources which can be used to save time and improve the student experience on the clerkship
• Share strategies for developing learner and trainee experiences that enhance their personal growth while enhancing your clerkship
Background:
As clerkship leadership, protected time is like a shooting star, you see it off in the distance and it looks beautiful. However, in reality, the day-to-day grind is exhausting with always more to do and our time is off in a black hole. It does not have to be that way. In this interactive workshop, we will share creative solutions for making your time go further. What if your sub-Is created teaching tools for the clerkship students? What if you flipped the classroom - so students taught each other, and faculty moderated instead of lectured? Have you thought about asking residents and fellows to help lead simulations or review sessions? This session will discuss and share ‘clerkship work hacks’ that create more diverse educational opportunities for learners and widens the pool of educators. These tips even grant opportunities and elevate students from diverse backgrounds to improve their holistic review on residency application. It’s an Intergalactic Win Win!
