YoUV Protection: Self-reflection utilizing after action review techniques for quality improvement
Objective: This interactive workshop will provide participants with the skills and tools to seek timely feedback, conduct after-action reviews of their own work and ideas, focus on self-assessment and quality improvement and help build their scholarly portfolio. We will review implementation science, and how to utilize plan-do-study-act (PDSA) tools toward scholarly activity. We will teach after action review techniques as a method of self-assessment.
Workshop Agenda: • Introduction: In this interactive workshop we will discuss the current pitfalls of evaluation and feedback in academia, and provide important tools to gather meaningful, timely feedback which can lead to quality improvement. (20-minutes)
• Interactive Exercises (40-minutes)
• Wrap Up (15-minutes)
Interactive Component: After being presented with some new ways to actively solicit feedback, participants will have the opportunity to role play these activities. They will also be given the opportunity to self-assess a recent piece of their academic work (e.g. lecture, workshop, OSCE, manuscript). Participants are encouraged to bring a recent work product with them. There will be an opportunity to share their self-assessment in small groups. Participants will provide timely feedback about this workshop utilizing a smart-phone enabled survey tool and then assist the authors in completing the \'study\' portion of a PDSA cycle to lead to workshop improvement. A postcard prompt to be mailed to participants in 3 months to remind them of their commitment to self-assessment and improvement
Take Home Product: A list of question prompts for obtaining feedback, a toolkit for after-action reviews, instructions on the use of apps and technology for gaining immediate feedback from learners/participants
