Dipping a Toe in: A Zoom Learning Community for Post-Match Fourth Year Medical Students

Objective: This workshop will provide participants with the background, resources and inspiration for creating a post-match curriculum for incoming interns. The UME to GME transition has historically been marked by medical school sponsored fourth year boot camps or gateway courses followed by residency program sponsored jam packed intern orientation. During COVID19, these usual didactic events were suspended. We created a series of Zoom meetings to virtually bring our incoming interns together in order to introduce our philosophy of learning during residency, review some basic didactic material and set a groundwork for wellness and mentorship prior to starting internship.

Workshop Agenda:
In this interactive workshop, we will present our experience developing and delivering a post-match curriculum. We will share our curriculum, assignments and reactions from participants. We will highlight the existing APGO, CREOG and ACOG resources that could be used for this purpose. In small groups, participants will then generate ideas for topics and share resources for teaching within the context of their own programs. Finally, we will moderate a discussion on the feasibility and acceptability of a similar program during non-pandemic status when students have competing priorities, travel plans and clinical responsibilities.

Interactive Component:
Participants will:
•  Generate ideas for purposeful sessions that highlight the culture of their programs
•  Share resources for curriculum building
•  Participate in discussion of barriers to successful implementation of this type of program.

Take Home Product:
Participants will receive a copy of our curriculum and a resource list for curriculum building.
