UMEC Column: Teaching Tips for the New Academic Year

The beginning of the academic years is a great time to re-invigorate and engage your teaching faculty and residents as teachers. If you have not done so already, make sure that you review and distribute the clerkship learning objectives, student evaluation grading rubrics, and student and faculty expectations. It is very important that both teachers and learners have clear expectations and learning objectives.
A great way to engage your educational team is to involve them in development and implementation of your learning activities. Examples of engaging activities might include:
- Departmental education committee meetings
- Undergraduate medical education department meetings
- Preceptor development seminars
