Now accepting applications: APGO Academic Scholars and Leaders (ASL) and Surgical Education Scholars (SES) programs

The APGO Academic Scholars and Leaders program is designed to equip faculty with the knowledge and skills needed to be effective educators and leaders. The program also trains participants to take a scholarly approach to education. Graduates of the program will be knowledgeable in:

  • Curriculum design
  • Instructional formats Instructional/learning theory
  • Large and small group instruction
  • Clinical instruction
  • Evaluation of teaching
  • Feedback on performance
  • Assessment of simulated and workplace clinical skills
  • Educational research designs
  • Management/leadership skills, team building
  • Organizational change/conflict

The goal of the APGO Surgical Education Scholars program is to provide a mechanism, on a national level, that develops confident, professional ob-gyn surgical educators who are able to implement surgical curricula at teaching institutions across the United States and Canada. SES graduates will be prepared to fulfill major surgical educational responsibilities and positions within their medical centers as they will be knowledgeable in:

  • Conducting needs assessments
  • Small team and one-on-one clinical instruction in
    low- and high-fidelity surgical settings
  • Implementing patient safety techniques while teaching
  • Employing surgical checklists
  • Assessment of learner performance/knowledge
  • Giving constructive feedback to learners
  • Small team and one-on-one management and leadership skills
  • Conducting surgical education research projects
