This joint CREOG & APGO program is intended to help medical school and residency program directors create a transition to residency program or boot camp at their own institutions. Learn what works and what doesn’t from faculty who have successfully implemented transition courses. The program also features a hands-on Cocktails & Simulations session to introduce attendees to educational products available to ob-gyn educators.

NEW ON THE BLOG: 2020 FDS RECAP
APGO kicked off the new decade with the 2020 Martin L. Stone, MD, Faculty Development Seminar (FDS). The meeting at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Bonita Springs, Florida had 235 attendees.

LAST CHANCE: SUBMIT A PLENARY PROPOSAL FOR THE 2021 FDS BY FEBRUARY 3
The deadline to submit a plenary proposal for the 2021 Martin L. Stone, MD, Faculty Development Seminar is approaching. In the spirit of elevating scholarship opportunities for APGO members, for the first time, APGO’s Undergraduate Medical Education Committee (UMEC) is extending an invitation to APGO members to submit a proposal for a 50-minute plenary session at the 2021 meeting.

APPLY NOW: BECOME AN APGO SCHOLAR
The Academic Scholars and Leaders (ASL) Program and the Surgical Education Scholars (SES) Program Classes of 2022 are accepting applications.

The APGO Academic Scholars and Leaders program is designed to equip faculty with the knowledge and skills needed to be effective educators and leaders. The program also trains participants to take a scholarly approach to education.

The goal of the APGO Surgical Education Scholars program is to provide a mechanism, on a national level, that develops confident, professional ob-gyn surgical educators who are able to implement surgical curricula. SES graduates will be prepared to fulfill major surgical educational responsibilities and positions within their medical centers.

NEW APGO RESOURCE: MEDICAL STUDENT EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES 11TH EDITION
The APGO Medical Student Educational Objectives are reviewed on a regular basis by the APGO Undergraduate Medical Education Committee (UMEC) to ensure their relevance, importance and helpfulness in assisting with the development of ob-gyn clinical clerkship curricula.

For the 11th edition, HSS and EPA mapping were incorporated. The companion teaching cases, student logbook and curriculum will be updated in 2020.

NEW APGO RESOURCE: EFFECTIVE STUDENT ADVISING SERIES
The new APGO Effective Student Advising Series is intended to educate medical educators and learners about best practices for advising medical students on a career in women’s health. These pamphlets were written by the APGO Undergraduate Medical Education Committee (UMEC) and are formatted as easy-to-read PDFs that are available as free downloads for APGO members.

VIEWPOINT BY APGO PRESIDENT FEATURED IN JAMA
A paper authored by Maya Hammoud, MD, MBA, APGO President, titled Improving the Residency Application and Selection Process: An Optional Early Result Selection Process was published in JAMA Online on January 23. Doctor Hammoud is the Principle Investigator on the Transforming the UME to GME Transition for Obstetrics and Gynecology “Right Resident, Right Program, Ready Day One” grant project, funded by the American Medical Association as part of its Reimagining Residency program. Doctor Hammoud also appeared on the JAMA Network’s Author Interviewspodcast, where she discussed the concept in greater detail.

Work groups will meet at the conclusion of the CREOG & APGO Annual Meeting on February 29 in Orlando, Florida, to continue exploring this issue along with other goals of the grant project. For more information, please contact TransitionFeedback@apgo.org.

  • Inform development of APGO products
  • Help identify areas of support clerkship directors may need
  • Gather information on important topics affecting clerkship directors and undergraduate medical education
