Inspiration Station: APGO’s Annual 5K Suds Run & Walk Returns January 7!

Back by popular demand, the APGO 5K Suds Run & Walk returns Sunday, January 7, at the 2018 APGO Martin L. Stone, MD, Faculty Development Seminar (FDS) in Manalapan, Florida. The annual 5K Suds Run & Walk represents APGO’s commitment to physician wellness, providing FDS participants with an opportunity to unwind and engage in a healthful activity following a long day of learning, professional development and networking. This year, all proceeds from the run & walk will benefit APGO Academic Scholars and Leader’s Frank T. Stritter, PhD, Endowed Faculty Fund as part of the campaign celebrating the program’s 20th anniversary.

This year, we’re adding a new element of fun to the event by inviting participants to wear fun (yet comfortable) costumes during the race. We hope it makes the event even more memorable and creates some pretty wonderful photo ops.

The event begins at 3:15 PM on the hotel lawn with warm ups and stretches. A shotgun start kicks off the race at 3:30 PM, with participants following a tree-lined 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) course along Florida’s beautiful intercoastal waterway. Participants are invited to gather at the finish line for a post-race beer, light snacks and our always-entertaining multi-category award ceremony honoring a variety of awardees, from top race performers to the new Best Costume award.

The fee to register is $50 per person. Registrants also have the option of making an additional $50 donation in memory of APGO member Michael Plevyak, MD, a faculty physician in the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine of the University of Massachusetts/Baystate Hospital, who passed away on August 13 from injuries suffered in a car accident. Doctor Plevyak was an avid runner, a past APGO 5K participant and a member of the 2012 APGO Academic Scholars and Leaders Program graduating class. Donations in his name will also benefit APGO’s Academic Scholars and Leaders Frank T. Stritter, PhD, Endowed Faculty Fund. Race participants who donate at this time will receive a special race bib honoring Doctor Plevyak.

To register, visit www.apgo.org/2018fds and sign up for the 5K with your APGO Faculty Development Seminar registration. Early registration ensures the availability of a race T-shirt, so don’t delay! Be sure to check out our infographic below with tips and information for before, during and after the race.
