SPEC: An Innovative, Longitudinal Medical Student Pathway in OB/GYN Education Curriculum

Objective/ Background: SPEC (Student Pathway in OBGYN Education Curriculum) is a longitudinal program for medical students. 

 

Methods: Phase 1 offers shadowing and an elective course, and pairs preclinical students with physician mentors. Phase 2 during the clerkship year supplements clinical and surgical training. Phase 3 prepares senior students for residency. Assessment involves surveys and data from interviews and matches. 

 

Results: In the inaugural year, participants in our elective course and shadowing program found the experience to valuable, affirming program feasibility and value. 

 

Conclusion/ Discussion: This curriculum will integrate initiatives to cultivate an inclusive learning environment, fostering discussions on reproductive justice, health equity, and antiracism.
