Objective/ Background: Objective: Develop a rotation with rigorous curricula in response to increased interest in family planning
Current legislative restrictions on abortion care severely impact access to abortion care education and training. Medical students are seeking this training more as they are appropriately concerned they may not be able to access this training in residency. There are currently no standardized curricula available for a family planning medical student rotation. Complex Family Planning Faculty and other faculty who provide abortion services have had to make huge clinical shifts as well as educational shifts. This has left little time to respond to the increased demand for this education and training. This workshop is designed so that faculty leave with a draft curriculum, resources and a network of other faculty doing similar work.
Methods: Synthesized available objectives, frameworks and resources for family planning medical student rotation development.
Results: Creation of the Family Planning Rotation Toolkit, including Goals, Objectives, and Worksheet for developing ones own family planning rotation.
Conclusion/ Discussion: Family planning medical student rotations will look different depending on available resources and legal environment. A clear understanding and communication of expectations, objectives, and opportunities will help facilitate a successful rotation.
