Objective: Many learning management systems available are clunky and poorly accessible on mobile devices. Given that desktop computers are often difficult to access in clinical settings, we sought to create an interactive learning management system that is compatible with mobile devices and can be easily accessible in the clinical setting. We aim to provide the audience with a step by step application build process which can be implemented at their institution for any group of learners (e.g. pre-clinical students, clinical students, residents, fellows, etc.).
Methods: The application was designed using Glide, a no/low code free platform. We started by creating a schematic on paper of the key features and functions we hoped to develop. Next, we reviewed the tutorials available on the Glide YouTube page to familiarize ourselves with how to operate Glide and build content on the platform.
Results: The Acting Internship Clerkship Guide was launched for the OBGYN Acting Internship Clerkship in July of 2022 and was well-received by a test group of 15 students. Of note, an increase in completed student evaluations was noted compared to previous years. The tool was used for students to access information, including required readings, syllabus materials, and personalized schedules. In addition, it has many interactive components, including facilitating communication via announcement and chat functions, and hosting student evaluations, all available at the fingertips.
Conclusion/ Discussion: We hope that this app will be expanded to other groups of learners (e.g. third year clerkship students) to help facilitate learning in our on-demand and mobile society.
