Resident Oral Evaluations for Clinical Assessment
2012 ASL Abstract
OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study is toe estimate the construct validity of oral evaluation questions to assess clinical reasoning.
STUDY DESIGN: Faculty obstetrician/gynecologists completed an orientation and standard setting process. The examiners used standardized evaluation tools that included scoring of each question as competent, satisfactory, marginal or failure with definitions provided. Examiners also rated each resident in obstetrics and gynecology overall using rubrics covering six domains of knowledge and patient care. Mean scores for each case were compared across PGY levels.
RESULTS: Twenty residents were evaluated. Twenty on of twenty three questions showed that PGY4 residents consistently scored better than lower level residents. Three of the twenty one questions showed a statistical difference while three others showed a significant statistical difference.
