Managing the F.L.A.M.E.S: Forging Lasting Alliances for Medical Student Experiences at all Student Sites

Objective: Establishing consistency among OB/GYN clerkship sites is an LCME standard. The varied clerkship sites have different educational and clinical resources and multiple challenges exist in achieving consistency in clinical learner experiences. This round table will address the challenges and approaches to optimize consistency among the different clerkship sites and best fits into the subtheme: arising strategically: opportunities and challenges

 

Methods: This session on the topic of establishing consistency among OB/GYN clerkship sites, an LCME standard, and is designed for clerkship directors, site directors, administrators, academic deans, students  (all learner levels) and will employ active learning techniques such as small group case discussions and commitment to act-change. By the end of the session, learners should be better able to identify challenges and approaches to improve consistency among clerkship sites with a focus on educational resources and clinical instruction at different sites, improving communication among the faculty and students, and establishing student evaluation standards.

 

Results: Establishing consistency among the different OB/GYN clerkship sites is an LCME standard, regarding educational resources, clinical instruction, and the impact of health care inequities and disparities is important (LCME standards 5.5 and 7.6). However clinical sites vary and multiple challenges are often encountered in attaining consistency in the learning environment and educational experiences.  Discuss  consistency challenges among clerkship sites, approaches to improve each challenge, and comment section based on content from interactive open discussion of cases
