READY FOR ORBIT: ADVISING FOR RESIDENCY APPLICATION USING A TEAM APPROACH

Objective: Applying to residency is more challenging than ever. As interest in OBGYN as a career choice has grown, the number and competitiveness of applicants has increased, while changes in the application ecosystem, including licensing exams, on-line interviewing, and the expected adoption of a Standardized Letter of Evaluation add to applicants’ need for OBGYN-specific guidance through the application process. Students from groups traditionally underrepresented in medicine and other marginalized populations, as well as first-generation students may need extra guidance and mentoring to achieve a desired residency match. A team approach to advising can meet individual students’ needs and achieve a successful match outcome.

In this highly interactive workshop, participants will learn the basics of career advising, review recent changes, and discuss common and challenging advising cases. We will also share one institution’s team approach to advising.
