Aligning your Purpose with Your Passion – A Primer for Setting Goals for Your Bright Future

Objective: Did you know that if you set a goal you are 100 percent more likely to achieve it?  Who do you aspire to be?  How do you want to be remembered? Edwin Locke’s goal-setting theory of motivation states that goal setting is linked to task performance, but that we are more likely to achieve goals that are specific and challenging than easy and generalizable.  In other words, effective goal setting needs to be SMART: specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-based.   Goal setting can strengthen a person’s sense of purpose, self-confidence and autonomy and can be used personally, with trainees and even with patients.  In addition, there are multiple tools and motivators to help achieve SMART goals. In this interactive workshop we will set SMART goals that align with professional and personal passions, discuss motivators, and how to integrate goal setting into educational programs.
