Fortify Your Department: Embrace and Harness Your Faculty’s Multigenerational Influences

Round Table Text:
For the first time in history, four generations occupy the U.S. workforce, with academic health
centers being amongst the most multigenerational of workplaces. This generational blending
can lead to increased opportunities, but can also result in intergenerational conflict. This
session will examine academic faculty through the lens of generational difference. Participants
will discuss the unique characteristics of each generational cohort; explore how these
generational differences affect the structure and function of academic departments; and
brainstorm solutions to help multigenerational teams function more effectively in education,
clinical care, and research.
