Inspiration Station: 17 Multimedia Resources for Teaching 2 Ob-Gyn Educational Topics
Educational psychologist Richard Mayer’s Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning tells us that optimal learning occurs when information is presented through separate media channels, enabling the learner to filter, select, organize and integrate information with prior knowledge.
You don’t have to be familiar with Mayer or his theory to know that multimedia learning is pretty commonplace these days, occurring both inside and outside of higher learning institutions. Without even realizing it, we learn through multimedia channels everyday, as we surf the internet, watch the news, or play Words with Friends. And, anyone might say that learning something by, say, watching a video or playing an educational game can be more fun than reading text alone.
So, in light of these ideas, we are bringing you a collection of educational tools in each of the six multimedia channels – text, audio, still images, animation, video and interactivity – for teaching two ob-gyn topics, endometriosis and contraception. This list of 17 multimedia resources is comprised primarily of teaching tools from APGO, along with some cool and noteworthy outside products. With several resources to pick and choose from, your students will have a better chance of absorbing the material – and will probably enjoy learning it, too.
