Anti-racist assessment: rooting out inequity in assessment and grading

Objective: Participants will examine bias in assessment and grading for URiM learners and to develop strategies to achieve equity in these domains.

 

Methods: Presenters will share data regarding bias in assessment in medical education and its impact.

Participants will receive various assessment tools/products and reflect how bias is perpetuated by the various methods.  Participants will engage in the development of equity-based strategies to “nourish” the soil of equity in assessment for URiM learners. 

Presenters will share best practices in grading and assessment to reduce bias and foster equity.

 

Results: N/A

 

Conclusion/ Discussion: Participants will be prepared to analyze student assessment tools with an eye on equity and reducing racism, and will leave the session with at least 3 strategies to reduce racism within learner assessment at their organization.
